The leaping horse of critical thinking is Inference. We start at a given point, and we leap: “If this statistic is true, then ______ is possible.” 

The variations are infinite. We are rarely taught the practice of making inferences, but they are possibility generators. 

As we strive to figure out if our idea is a good idea, developing inferences shifts us into the future and alerts us of possible errors.
